PUBLIC NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION RELATED PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois hereby requests qualifications from professional services consultants to provide professional services in connection with the following project:
Project Name: Medical Sciences Building - Renovation of Instructional Labs (CDB)
Description of Project: THIS CDB PROJECT SEEKS TO RESTRUCTURE APPROXIMATELY 6,000 SF OF INSTRUCTIONAL LABORATORIES IN THE MEDICAL SCIENCES BUILDING FOR HISTOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY, NEUROSCIENCE, AND IMMUNOLOGY. THE PROJECT ADDRESSES SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THE MEDICAL CURRICULUM THAT HAVE BEEN GRADUALLY IMPLEMENTED SINCE THE BUILDING WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED IN THE 1970'S. THESE CHANGES INTRODUCE ,PRE COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY INTO THE LABORATORIES AND ALLOW FOR INSTRUCTION USING THAT TECHNOLOGY.

Project Budget: $1,975,000.00Construction Budget: $1,305,000.00

Note: The project will be administered using the Owner's web-based project management system. PRZM was developed to maximaize the potential of the Internet in allowing project team members to access and exchange project information. PRZM supports team colllaboration in management and interaction, as well as a team member empowerment on a multi-layer security system.

Minimum user requirements are as follows:

  • Internet Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher is recommended.
  • E-mail: PRZM requires the user to have a valid e-mail account.
  • Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) viewer.

Only those firms which meet the following qualifications will be considered for selection:

  • Licensed to practice as an (Architect, Engineer, or Landscape Architect) in the State of Illinois.
  • Prequalified with the State of Illinois Capital Development Board.
  • Registered and authorized to do business in the State of Illinois.
  • Utilization of AutoCAD compatible System.

The following project-related criteria will be used to evaluate the firms requesting consideration for selection:
  • Current commitments of firm, proposed staff and consultants.
  • Prior experience of the proposed project staff in the design and construction of similar projects.
  • Overall design quality of the relevant projects submitted.
  • MAFBE participation of Professional Service Consultant and sub-consultants with a goal of 20%. Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Business Enterprise Program certification is the basis for determination of MAFBE status.
  • Experience in the design and construction of flexible, instructional laboratory facilities, which are able to expand easily, accommodating reconfiguration and other changes for a variety of uses and class sizes.
  • Experience in the design of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems that can easily be connected, reconnected and reconfigured.
  • Experience and expertise in successful construction cost estimating and cost control.
  • Team demonstrates experience in designing instructional settings which integrate
    architectural designs that facilitate structured and also informal interaction of the occupants.
