PUBLIC NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION RELATED PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois hereby requests qualifications from professional services consultants to provide professional services in connection with the following project:
Project Name: Materials Science and Engineering Building - 212 Suite Laboratory Remodeling
Description of Project: THE DEPARTMENT OF MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING WILL RENOVATE APPROXIMATELY 2,500 SF OF SPACE IN THIS SUITE. THIS RENOVATION OF THE 212 LABORATORY SUITE OF ROOMS WILL PROVIDE RESEARCH LABORATORIES AND OFFICE SPACE FOR TWO ASSISTANT PROFESSORS. THIS RENOVATION WILL INCLUDE OFFICE SPACE AND BIO-SAFETY LEVEL 2 LABORATORY SPACE TO SUPPORT THE RESEARCH OF APPROXIMATELY 14 GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTS. PROJECT WILL INCLUDE THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF BIO-LEVEL 2 WET LABS, INCLUDING LAB UTILITIES: COMPRESSED AIR, NATURAL GAS, H+C WATER SOURCES WITH NEW LOCAL HW HEATERS, SANITARY DRAIN CONNECTIONS, FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM, AND EMERGENCY SHOWER STATIONS. MECHANICAL SYSTEMS SHALL INCLUDE A NEW HVAC SYSTEM REPLACING PERIMETER STEAM RADIANT HEAT AND WINDOW AC UNITS. VENTILATION SYSTEM SHALL ACCOMMODATE THE INCLUSION OF 4-6 NEW LABORATORY FUME HOODS.

Note: The project will be administered using the Owner's web-based project management system. PRZM was developed to maximaize the potential of the Internet in allowing project team members to access and exchange project information. PRZM supports team colllaboration in management and interaction, as well as a team member empowerment on a multi-layer security system.

Minimum user requirements are as follows:

  • Internet Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher is recommended.
  • E-mail: PRZM requires the user to have a valid e-mail account.
  • Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) viewer.

Only those firms which meet the following qualifications will be considered for selection:

  • Licensed to practice as an (Architect, Engineer, or Landscape Architect) in the State of Illinois.
  • Prequalified with the State of Illinois Capital Development Board.
  • Registered and authorized to do business in the State of Illinois.
  • Utilization of AutoCAD compatible System.

The following project-related criteria will be used to evaluate the firms requesting consideration for selection:
  • Current commitments of firm, proposed staff and consultants.
  • Prior experience of the proposed project staff in the design and construction of similar projects.
  • Overall design quality of the relevant projects submitted.
  • MAFBE participation of Professional Service Consultant and sub-consultants with a goal of 20%. Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Business Enterprise Program certification is the basis for determination of MAFBE status.
  • Experience in the design and construction of flexible office and laboratory facilities for stateof-the-art bio-safety level 2 research laboratories that are able to expand easily and accommodate reconfiguration.
  • Experience in the design and construction of research labs which meet all current requirements for biomaterials research practices.
  • Experience in the design of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems that can easily be connected, reconnected and reconfigured.
  • Experience and expertise in successful construction cost estimating and cost control.
